ZEST HEALTH

Product Designer

Zest is a health platform that helps people living with diabetes work toward reversal through holistic care. At the time, activity guidance and tracking were handled through PDFs and caregiver conversations, which made progress hard to track and difficult to scale. This project explored how activity recommendations and logging could be embedded directly into the platform.

Strategic intent

The goal was to support adults with type 2 diabetes in building consistent physical activity habits by making recommendations, logging, and progress tracking visible within their care plan. By moving activity management into the product, the platform could better support continuity of care and reduce reliance on manual processes.

Designing a new capability from scratch

I led the end-to-end design of the activity recommendation and logging system, from early research through to high-fidelity designs and developer handoff. The work involved translating complex health guidance into an experience that felt supportive, understandable, and easy to use on a day-to-day basis.

Collaboration

To align quickly, I led a design sprint with a cross-functional team of designers, a developer, and a marketing expert. Together, we unpacked user needs, clinical considerations, and product constraints, and explored solution concepts collaboratively before committing to a direction.

Grounding decisions in evidence and usability

Design began with secondary research into physical activity guidelines for people living with type 2 diabetes, alongside an understanding of how caregivers currently supported patients. Early sketches and flows were used to explore information architecture and core interactions, and were iterated rapidly to reduce complexity and cognitive load.

These concepts were then developed into wireframes and high-fidelity prototypes using the existing design system to ensure consistency with the broader platform. The resulting designs focused on clarity, reassurance, and ease of logging, while leaving room for more advanced features in future iterations.

Preparing for delivery and growth

I produced annotated designs and interactive prototypes to support a smooth handoff to engineering. While the first iteration focused on core logging and recommendations, the system was intentionally designed to scale — with future enhancements such as activity review, educational content, and light gamification planned to increase engagement over time.

Outcome

The initial iteration was delivered to engineering and is in progress. The work established a foundation for expanding activity support within the platform and integrating it more deeply into users’ long-term care journeys.
